China grading culture
Chinese transcripts are usually reported as a raw percentage (百分制) first. There is no single national percentage-to-GPA formula in China — each university, and sometimes each faculty within a university, publishes its own conversion table for outbound applications and credential evaluation.
Common conversion pitfall
Because two Chinese universities can convert the identical 85% to two different GPA figures, an outside evaluator's conversion (WES, ECE-style) can legitimately disagree with your own university's official one — for anything with real stakes, request the conversion the receiving institution specifically asked for.
