Final Grade Calculator
Work out exactly what you need to score on your final exam to reach the grade you want.
The formula
needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight
Write the weight as a decimal — a final worth 30% of the course is 0.30. If your current grade is 82%, you want 85%, and the final is worth 30%: needed = (85 − 82 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 92%.
Worked example
Say you sit at 74% with a final worth 40% and you want to finish on 80%. needed = (80 − 74 × 0.60) ÷ 0.40 = (80 − 44.4) ÷ 0.40 = 89% on the final.
What if I need more than 100%?
A result above 100% means the grade is no longer reachable from the final alone. Lower your target, ask about extra credit, or talk to your instructor. The calculator flags this in red.
